🛠️ On-Site Labor Reductions & Mechanical Layout Advantages
We have eliminated the typical installation headaches associated with older-generation heat exchangers:
1. Factory-Integrated PEX Ports (ASTM F1807 / F1960)
- The Benefit: Eliminates the need to purchase separate copper-to-PEX adapters on-site.
- The Application: Premium models arrive pre-equipped with factory-fused 3/4" integrated crimp PEX or cold-expansion PEX ports that swivel 360 degrees. This completely removes open-flame torch labor inside tight wood-framed wall cavities, reducing fire risks and saving valuable time on the job.
2. TDX Series Direct-Glue Installation
- The Benefit: No separate rubber mechanical bands or transition shield couplings required.
- The Application: The TDX Series is engineered with integrated ABS connection hubs. Installers simply apply standard ABS plumbing cement to solvent-weld (glue) the unit directly inline into standard residential ABS drain stacks.
3. Compact Low-Clearance Profiles
- The Benefit: Fits within highly restrictive framing spaces without structural modifications.
- The Application: Compact configurations (such as the 24″ TDX3240 and 32.0″ TDH3320B) are optimized to slide easily into tight structural floor joists, low-clearance basements, and stacked multi-family plumbing drops.
📐 Plumbing Code Certifications & Potable Safety Standards
Every ThermoDrain unit is manufactured to comply with strict international plumbing safety criteria, ensuring problem-free municipal approvals:
- Performance Verification: Fully tested, evaluated, and independently verified to meet CSA B55.1 performance standards.
- Potable Water Security: Certified fully to CSA B55.2. Features a strict, vented double-wall separation barrier paired with an integrated leak path to guarantee zero cross-contamination between blackwater drainage and domestic fresh water mains.
- Zero Flow Obstruction: Designed with a mirror-smooth copper interior core containing no internal fins, baffles, or restrictions. It functions as a standard smooth-bore DWV drain stack pipe, ensuring zero impact on household blackwater drainage velocity and eliminating clogging risks.
🔀 Potable Water Routing Frameworks
To optimize thermal transfer coefficients during concurrent flow events (like running a shower), plumb the preheated water exit port using one of these structural methods:
- Combined Supply (Highest Efficiency): Route the preheated water to split evenly, feeding both the cold-water side of the shower mixing valve and the cold-water inlet of the water heater simultaneously.
- Water Heater Preheat Only: Route preheated water exclusively into the cold-water intake of the water heater. This is ideal for highly restrictive plumbing layouts or tankless water systems, where it boosts peak winter hot water flow delivery rates by up to 75%.
- Fixture Preheat Only: Route preheated water straight to the cold-water inlet of the local shower mixing valve assembly.
