Factory-installed water fittings

ThermoDrain comes with three different potable water fittings to make installation easy.

  1. Crimp-style PEX fittings. (ASTM F1807) This patent pending factory-installed option makes the installation of your new unit easy and fast. No soldering is required. Simply line up the PEX lines and crimp them.
Watch this video to learn more about crimp PEX.
  2. Expansion style PEX fittings. (ASTM F1960) This patent pending factory-installed option makes the installation of your new unit easy and fast. No soldering is required. Simply line up the PEX lines and crimp them.
Watch this video to learn more about expansion PEX.
  3.  Copper 3/4″ Male. Ready for any type or quick connecting adaptor such as compression fittings or simply soldering a PEX or other fitting to adapt to your current potable water system.

The difference between Crimp and Expansion PEX can be found on this page

High quality drain couplings are included with every ThermoDrain

ThermoDrain comes with a high quality drain coupling that ensures a fast and easy installation.

Connecting the ThermoDrain

A ThermoDrain installation takes on average, 20 to 45 minutes and $30 to $50 of additional parts

ThermoDrain comes with optional factory-installed PEX fittings, either the crimp or expansion style. Each ThermoDrain comes with quality mechanical drain couplings explicitly designed for the ThermoDrain. Light and compact, the ThermoDrain is suited for a one-person installation on any style drain stack where space is at a premium. ThermoDrain features ultra low-pressure drop and high efficiency.

Simple installation steps

Drain connection

1. Cut out a vertical section of the drainpipe below the shower. Any drain pipe works with the ThermoDrain Refer to ThermoDrain installation instructions for measurements.
2. Fasten the drain connectors to the ThermoDrain and to the drain pipe. These will seal the top and bottom of the drain connection.

Cold water connection

1. Connect the bottom of the ThermoDrain coil to a cold water supply line (this is the inlet).
2. Connect the top of the ThermoDrain coil (this is the exit) in any of the following three configuration options;

(Refer to diagrams below)

Option 1. The cold water line of the shower
Option 2. The inlet of the hot water tank
Option 3. Alternatively, both 1 and 2 (the most efficient option)

THERMODRAIN Q & A

How easy is it to install?

A ThermoDrain can be installed by a single person in less than 45 minutes.

What is included with the ThermoDrain?

Two easy to install drain couplings and instructions.
If you ordered a PEX option, these will be either crimp PEX type fittings or expansion type PEX fittings that will be factory installed onto the unit.

What length of ThermoDrain do I select?

Click here to view PDF on how to measure for restricted heights.

NOTE: With the new TDH Series, the height for the 42% efficient unit is now 33.5 inches.

Does the ThermoDrain work on Instantaneous water heaters?

It is compatible with all hot water heating systems including Solar. ThermoDrain is compatible with all types of plumbing systems (Iron, ABS, Copper, Pex).

Does the ThermoDrain need to be insulated?

If the ThermoDrain is located in a humid area, condensation may form on the outside coil as is the case with all cold water lines in the home. and therefore insulating the ThermoDrain is recommended. Insulating the ThermoDrain will not significantly increase the efficiency of the unit.
